How does tire sizing work?
The tire size consists of three basic measurements - width, aspect ratio, and rim diameter. The tire width is measured from sidewall to sidewall, when the tire is mounted and inflated to the proper pressure. The aspect ratio tells you the height of the tire, from the bead to the top of the tread. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall. The smaller the number, the wider the tire will be in relation to its height. The rim diameter is the wheel rim diameter for which the tire was designed.
